The origin of Dojo Kamakura
The Bluming family search a name for the Dojo of Shihan Couzijn, they called it Dojo Kokoro (it means 'heart'). Shihan Couzijn was a man who fought with his heart. Brothers Gordeau trained in this dojo and after years of training they decided to begin an own dojo.
The Couzijn family gave the name 'Kamakura' to the brothers. Kamakura is a period in Japanese history and called after a Shogun with the name Kamakura who possessed 3 important characteristics; diplomacy, stubborn and short-tempered.
Under the name of Kamakura, de Dojo of the brothers Gordeau was set-up. Nowadays, the Dojo is known all over the world. Multiple world-, european-, en Dutch- champions in several disciplines are trained here and still train here today.
